<p>Hey People,</p>
<p>	Have you seen this clever video entitled &quot; The New Rules Of Engagement&quot;? It&#39;s about 3.5 minutes long. I feel like I should be snapping my fingers and sipping coffee while watching this&#8230; But I digressed&#8230;</p>
<p>	It summarizes the shift in the way we all engage with each other &#8212; prospects, clients, potential clients &#8212; but in a fun, clever (and still informative) way.</p>
<p>	Anyhoo, I hope you enjoy it. It&#39;s semi-random, but so am I.</p>
<p>	Happy Friday! <img src='http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>

<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/how-a-7-year-old-boy-can-make-you-500k/women-handshake" rel="attachment wp-att-1253"><img align="middle" alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1253" height="217" src="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/Women-handshake.jpg" style="width: 144px; height: 217px;" title="Women-handshake" width="144" /></a></div>
<div>A few weeks ago, I attended a local workshop for &ldquo;&#39;Minority&#39; Women in Business&quot;. To be quite honest, I&rsquo;m naturally not too keen on the whole &ldquo;networking&rdquo; (sometimes called &lsquo;schmoozing&rsquo;) thing. But I made a commitment to myself this summer to step out of my [not quite] comfort zone and get out and meet people. Hence the recent visits to a number of local workshops and events in Philadelphia &ndash; my current hometown.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><em>(On another side note, why do they call it a comfort zone anyways? It&rsquo;s soooo not comfortable, at all! But I digressed&hellip;)</em></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>You see, for years I daydreamed about being able to<strike> trip and fall</strike> get out of the bed whenever I wanted, work in my PJs, behind my computer without having to attend networking events, meet people in person and sip sparkling cider (I don&rsquo;t like champagne) with my pinky in the air, etc&hellip;, while simultaneously making tons of cash. I&rsquo;m talking bucko bucks!</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><a href="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/how-a-7-year-old-boy-can-make-you-500k/work-pajamas" rel="attachment wp-att-1294"><img align="left" alt="" class="alignleft size-full wp-image-1294" height="240" src="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/work-pajamas.jpg" style="width: 160px; height: 240px;" title="work-pajamas" width="160" /></a></div>
<div>Well, after spending lots of time and money on great training, after getting magnificent results AND a number of epic failures &ndash; I came to this shocking discovery: I&rsquo;m 27 years old and I actually want to help people and make a difference in my community, my city &ndash; heck, the world. I want to help churches, ministries, as well as creatives (musicians, artists &ndash; the whole shebang!) in various sectors of influence, online and in-person.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><strong>So what do all of these sectors have in common? </strong>They all involve people&hellip; just as everything else does in life.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><em><strong>Here&rsquo;s my confession: </strong>I believe that we often have dreams and set goals that in a nutshell are great. But at times they can be a camouflage that allows us to hide behind our fears so we don&rsquo;t have to face them. </em>It stinks to admit this, but my whole so-called dream of &ldquo;sitting behind the computer, making gynourmous amounts of money without ever having to meet anyone, make a phone call, attend an event, blah blah&rdquo; was a cover up for my shyness. There, I said it!</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>Am I saying that it&rsquo;s bad to want to do this? Absolutely not! In fact, I know that some day, I will have the luxury of being to do that completely, but I believe God loves me too much to let me hide behind my insecurities. I am not destined to be a hermit. *sigh*</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><strong>Sometimes, we can use the excuse of &ldquo;working within our strengths&rdquo; as a cover-up to not step up and conquer our fears.</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">&nbsp;</div>
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/how-a-7-year-old-boy-can-make-you-500k/die-zehn-gebote-kabel-1" rel="attachment wp-att-1252"><img align="middle" alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1252" height="194" src="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/Moses.jpg" style="width: 216px; height: 194px;" title="&quot;Die zehn Gebote&quot; - Kabel 1" width="216" /></a></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>You know the story of Moses, right? Mr. Let-My-People-Go or I&rsquo;ll call locusts, frogs, flies, and a whole bunch of gross stuff from Heaven on your behind until you set my people free. Yeah, that &#39;guy&#39;.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>This amazing man was used mightily to set an entire nation free, with a staff, his sidekick/brother (Aaron) and a big God.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>But let&rsquo;s rewind the story a bit. Did you remember that he had a speech imped-dddddd-iment? And he used to sttt-ttt-t-t-t-utter? So when God told him, <em>&ldquo;Yo Moses, guess what, I want you to go to Pharaoh and tell him to let my people go. I can&rsquo;t be letting my people be slaves for much longer. That&rsquo;s not a good look son.&rdquo;</em></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>Moses was like <em>&ldquo;True dat. I agree. But, um, you know I don&rsquo;t like to sp-sp-sp-sp-eeeeak. I st-tu-utter? Can&rsquo;t you use my brrrr-brr&#8211;oo-ther Aaron? His speech is tti-i-i-ight, alright and out of ssssi-i-ight.&rdquo;</em></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>God was like <em>&ldquo;Word. That might be true. But I want to use you.&rdquo;</em></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>Long [ghettofied-with-a hint-of-ebonics-Biblically-translated-story] short &ndash; Moses stepped up in spite of his fears and faced Pharaoh head on. <strong>The man with a speech impediment was used mightily in the area that was considered one of his greatest weaknesses &ndash; his speech.</strong> His voice was used as a mouthpiece for God and as a result, the Israelites were freed after having been enslaved for 400 years. The rest is history&hellip;literally!</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><em>Is it possible that some of your desires could be motivated by fear? Or even worse &ndash; pride? </em>Are you using it as an excuse to not step up and be who you are called to be? I know I sometimes do. And if you want to join me in being 100% honest, you just might be doing the same in some areas of your life.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>But, I <em>could </em>be wrong&hellip; You be the judge.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>Don&rsquo;t believe me? Read <a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0446691437">&ldquo;The War Of Art&rdquo; by Steven Pressfield</a>. He says that sometimes we face the most resistance in the areas we were called to be successful in.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>So if you&rsquo;re facing quite the battle in certain areas of your life that you know you need to conquer, it might be a clue that you need to kick fear in-between his eyes, step on his big toe and do it anyways. I&rsquo;m just sayin&rsquo;&hellip;</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>But I digressed&hellip;sorta kinda, but not really&hellip;</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="color:#b22222;"><span style="font-size: 14px;"><strong>You want to know about how in the world a 7-year old boy can get someone over $500,000 and you want to know it now!</strong></span></span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>Alright, alright! Keep reading&hellip;.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>At this &ldquo;Minority Women in Business&rdquo; Workshop, the speaker was a wonderful business man named Harold. He was high-larious by the way. No fake laughs were necessary for me. They were 100% organic chuckles!</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>He asked all of us to make a list of everyone we knew as a homework assignment. I&rsquo;m talking EVERYone! Your doctor, dentist, cousins, uncles, nieces, nephews, bail bondsman, parole officer, your sister&rsquo;s best friend&rsquo;s baby daddy &ndash; you know, errrrrybody! Even your crazy uncle who gets drunk at the family gatherings!</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><em>&ldquo; You just never know someone, who knows someone&hellip;&rdquo;</em> You know the saying, right?</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>To be honest, I thought &ldquo;O&hellip;K&hellip;&rdquo; I heard this tip many times, being a recovering semi-serial network marketer.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>That was until he told us a story that blew me away.<em> In fact, I still get chills and amazed just thinking about it.</em></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>You see, at one point in his life, Harold (like many of us have experienced &ndash; or might be facing right now) found himself unemployed after being laid-off from his job. Rather than wallowing in self pity, sitting on the floor in sackcloth and ashes mourning his loss, he pulled up his bootstraps and began doing freelance consulting. He figured it was a great way for him to get some sort of income until he found a great full-time job.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>One day Harold was outside cleaning his yard. Shortly after, his neighbor&rsquo;s 7-year old son came outside, saw what he was doing and asked if he could help.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>Harold agreed. A little <strike>servant</strike> helper would be nice! Plus, he adored this boy!</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>So together they pulled up weeds, while the boy even accidentally pulled up a few flowers too! But Harold didn&rsquo;t mind. They were enjoying one another&rsquo;s company and having fun.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>At some point this boy began to ask him some questions.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><a href="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/how-a-7-year-old-boy-can-make-you-500k/boy-with-question" rel="attachment wp-att-1256"><img align="right" alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1256" height="292" src="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/boy-with-question.jpg" style="width: 131px; height: 292px;" title="boy with question" width="131" /></a></div>
<div><em><strong>(Please Note: this is my interpretation of the story Harold told. So the dialogue is not 100% accurate. After all, um&hellip;I wasn&rsquo;t there&hellip; But you&rsquo;ll get the point with this illustration&hellip;)</strong></em></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><strong>Boy:</strong> So Mr. Harold, what kind of work do you do?</div>
<div><strong>Harold: </strong>I do diversity training.</div>
<div><strong>Boy:</strong> What&rsquo;s that?</div>
<div><strong>Harold: </strong>Uh, let me see. That&rsquo;s where I help teach lots of people of all different colors, born in all different kinds of places how to be nice to each other and work together and help each other out. Sorta like we&rsquo;re doing right now.</div>
<div><strong>Boy:</strong> Coooooool!</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>Several hours later, several whacked weeds/flowers later, and after bushels of fun (pun intended! You KNOW I had to throw one in there&hellip;) it was time for the adorable boy to go home.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><em>Later that evening, Harold gets a phone call. <br />
	</em></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><strong>Harold:</strong> Hello&hellip;?</div>
<div><strong>Boy&rsquo;s Mom:</strong> Hey Harold! First of all, I&rsquo;d like to thank you for <strike>babysitting</strike> letting my son hang out with you today. He had so much fun! He&rsquo;s been raving about you all evening!</div>
<div><strong>Harold: </strong>No problem! I enjoyed it as much as he did!</div>
<div><strong>Mom: </strong>That&rsquo;s great. Really, thanks! He tells me that you do some sort of diversity training&hellip; Is that correct?</div>
<div><strong>Harold: </strong>Why yes, I do&hellip;</div>
<div><strong>Mom: </strong>That&rsquo;s awesome. You see, my company is looking for someone to assist with training our expanding teams on a few projects. Would you be interested in working with us on something like that? I can set you up with an interview.</div>
<div><strong>Harold:</strong> That would be great!</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><em><strong>A few interviews and a few contracts later, this &ldquo;lead&rdquo; resulted in over $500,000 in contracts and business. Harold had so much money rolling in that he was able to secure over 30 reps who on average were being paid over $1,500 a day! <br />
	</strong></em></div>
<div><em><strong><br />
	</strong></em></div>
<div><em><strong>&#8230;And it all started with an act of kindness&hellip;and a 7-year old boy. <br />
	</strong></em></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><a href="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/how-a-7-year-old-boy-can-make-you-500k/different-people-planting-together-diversity" rel="attachment wp-att-1254"><img align="left" alt="" class="alignleft size-full wp-image-1254" src="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/different-people-planting-together-diversity.jpg" style="width: 220px; height: 145px;" title="different people planting together - diversity" /></a></div>
<div>What is the lesson in this story? Sometimes we get so overwhelmed by starting a business or launching a new career that we forget the basics.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>While it&rsquo;s great to do your homework by researching your niche, studying the &ldquo;competition&rdquo;, doing the keyword research, <a href="http://www.thewebsitemanagers.com">setting up your website</a>, getting your opt-in offer up, getting all of your <a href="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/social-media-business-builder-design-package">social media pages designed</a> and set up, <a href="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wordpress-website-management-virtual-assistance-services">outsourcing your weaknesses</a>, etc&hellip; it can be overwhelming. Trust me, I have to remind myself to inhale and exhale quite frequently.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>But in all of this, please don&rsquo;t forget that sometimes just a simple act of kindness could lead you to your next breakthrough.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><a href="http://www.DaniJohnson.com"><strong>Dani Johnson</strong></a> says it best: <em>&ldquo;Money comes from people. If you can master people skills, you&rsquo;ll be wildly successful.&rdquo; </em></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/how-a-7-year-old-boy-can-make-you-500k/business-colleagues-shaking-hands" rel="attachment wp-att-1255"><img align="middle" alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1255" height="218" src="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/different-races-of-people-shaking-hands-diversity.jpg" style="width: 166px; height: 218px;" title="Business colleagues shaking hands" width="166" /></a></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>You can have the best website, do the best SEO research, have the perfect sales pages &ndash; the whole enchilada; but if you&rsquo;re a jerk, it&rsquo;ll catch up with you. You might have some success. Heck, you might have a lot of success. But will you be happy? Will you have peace?</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>It&rsquo;s hard to enjoy your wealth when you know that most people hate your guts and hope you slip on a banana peel.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>(Did I just say that? My bad&hellip;)</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>Please, remember this: <em>in all your research, diligence and hard work, make sure to be kind, friendly and generous as often as possible. Yes &ndash; please work with excellence. But for goodness sakes &#8211; leave room for the Supernatural to intervene on your behalf.</em></div>
<div><em><br />
	</em></div>
<div>I&rsquo;m not trying to be all deep and religious, but I believe God wants to bless all of us abundantly. I heard many say that <em><strong>if you do what you can do, God will do what you can&rsquo;t do</strong></em>.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>Come on, don&rsquo;t act like you don&rsquo;t love hearing those stories about celebrities who were discovered while pumping gas (i.e. Toni Braxton and Chris Brown) by a stranger and then shot to fame. We all do.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>I personally want to leave room for God to open doors for me that I couldn&rsquo;t have opened myself. I don&rsquo;t want to be able to track every single blessing that comes into my life. How exciting is that? If I could be the single cause of every positive effect in my life, I feel that I&rsquo;d be acting as though I were the only key to all of my success.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>I consider myself a small piece of a big puzzle that God has created.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>(But that&rsquo;s another story&hellip;)</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><strong>Here&rsquo;s the point:</strong> I&rsquo;m not trying to get you to have a lottery mentality that success will fall out of the sky and smack you upside your head. However, I&rsquo;m telling you from personal experience &ndash; both in my own life and members of my family, that one simple act of kindness or generosity (or great service) can open up doors no man can shut.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>I can go on and on (even more than what I have already done, ha ha) &ndash; but I won&rsquo;t. I have many stories of crazy stories about supernatural provision from resources I couldn&rsquo;t have predicted. I will share more of them <u>another</u> time&hellip; relax. *smile*</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>And for goodness sake, <u>sometimes you might have to get off your tush, step away from the computer and meet people&hellip; in real life&hellip; away from a monitor and keyboard!</u></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>As a part-time childcare provider, I know from experience that if the right people like you and they trust you (especially with their kids!) they will refer you over&hellip;and over! In fact, I haven&rsquo;t had to look for a single childcare client in the past few years, even though I&rsquo;ve been referred to probably over 20 families&hellip; all because the right people keep looking out for me and passing name around to <strike>strangers</strike> nice people.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><em><strong>Remember: in all (or at least most) of your &ldquo;doing&rdquo; &ndash; remember to be kind. (I still struggle with tech support people, so I&rsquo;ll need y&rsquo;all to pray for me to be kinder in that area). In all seriousness, you just never know what &ldquo;Angel&rdquo; you might be entertaining who could be holding the key to your next big door of success. *wink* <br />
	</strong></em></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>Here&rsquo;s a nice video called <a href="http://www.godtube.com/watch/?v=JJEM1JNU">&ldquo;I Need An Angel&rdquo; by Ruben Studdard</a> that demonstrates this idea. I hope some of you enjoy it and find it inspirational. (It might be a little cheesy for some, but I&rsquo;m a sucker for sappy songs. Also, please pardon the less-than-stellar quality, but for some reason it&#39;s removed from YouTube&#8230;</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>

<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/you-dont-have-to-reinvent-the-wheel-for-success/reinvent-the-wheel" rel="attachment wp-att-1023"><img align="middle" alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1023" height="283" src="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/reinvent-the-wheel.jpg" style="width: 243px; height: 283px;" title="reinvent the wheel" width="243" /></a></p>
<p>Ever think that in order to become successful, you have to come up with some brand new idea that no one has ever seen, with all sorts of gadgets and gizmos and super cool thingamajiggers? </p>
<p>	Coming up with a new invention or idea is one way to achieve massive success. But it isn&#39;t necessary. And it can be the most challenging road to success of them all.</p>
<p>	You see &#8211; many people have found lots of success just taking something that already existed and simply put their own twist on it (their USP &#8211; Unique Selling Proposition). They then mastered the basics of that industry, determined the proper audience to market to (and provide value to), enlisted the proper resources to market it and uh, that&rsquo;s pretty much it.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.brendonburchard.com">Brendon Burchard</a> discusses this in great detail in his awesome new book &quot;<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Millionaire-Messenger-Difference-Fortune-Sharing/dp/B0058M4X2G/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1311926272&amp;sr=1-1">The Millionaire Messenger</a>&quot; &#8211; where he teaches you how to make a fortune sharing your expertise in whatever field you desire.</p>
<p>	Taking that a step further &#8211; if you want to become an &quot;expert&quot; or a &quot;success&quot; in a certain niche, find out what those who are successful in that niche are doing and then do it.</p>
<p>I&rsquo;m sure that this isn&rsquo;t late-breaking news and you have heard this many times before.</p>
<p>	<em>It doesn&#39;t mean you have to become a carbon copy of anyone else</em>; however, you do have to learn to master the basics of that niche, find out what makes you different, put your own twist on it, and get-to-gettin&#39;! </p>
<p>	To semi-quote one of my favorite &lsquo;tell-it-like-it-is&rdquo; business coaches, <a href="http://www.danijohnson.com/2011/success-simple-follow-the-recipe/">Dani Johnson &#8211; success is simple as long as we learn to follow the dang recipe</a>!</p>
<p>	After all, Solomon says it best:&rdquo; &quot;there is nothing new under the sun.&quot; </p>
<p>	<em>Don&#39;t believe me?</em> Think about it: most great inventions are improvements on a previous invention. </p>
<p>	<a href="http://www.apple.com">Apple</a> is one of the greatest case studies on how to capitalize off of improvements. They gained success with the iPod&hellip;then they released another one&hellip;AND another one&hellip;and then the iPhone&hellip;and another one&hellip;AND yet another one&hellip;then the iPad&hellip;now the iPad 2&hellip;</p>
<p>	<em>You catch my drift?</em></p>
<p>	Did you notice that Apple never has sales specials? You won&rsquo;t find a clearance rack in their stores. (Trust me, I checked!) They never offer BOGOs (Buy One Get One FREE specials). Nope &ndash; <strong>they just market, sell and upgrade; then wash, rinse and repeat</strong><em>. </em></p>
<p>	<em>And yet people continue to buy their products time and time again</em>, whether their products are a necessity or not. Be honest &ndash; you know a few folks who claim to be broke and do not have a business, yet they own an iPod, iPhone, an iPad (WITH 3G) and the list goes on&hellip; </p>
<p>	I&#39;m convinced that 20 years from now, people will be buying the iPhone 36 &#8211; WITH teleporting capabilities. (OK&hellip;maybe not&hellip;)</p>
<p>	AND, you will still be able to save a lot of money on your car insurance by switching to Geico. (OK&hellip;maybe not&hellip;)</p>
<p>	<em>But I digressed&hellip;</em></p>
<p>	Rather than continuing to bore you with more clich&eacute;s, I want to share an interview that I thought you might find interesting. It is with Will Smith (a fellow Philadelphian, woo-hoo!!!) and a radio host (Angie Martinez) talking about how he became the &quot;Summer Box Office King&quot;.</p>
<p>	Wanna know what he did? <strong>By simply studying the Top 10 Bestselling Movies Of All Time and seeing what they had in common, he discovered 8/10 had special effects and creatures.<u> </u>So in order to become the #1 bestselling actor of all time, he started seeking out scripts that had special effects and creatures.&nbsp; And it didn&#39;t end there; he knew that he would need to be in great shape for these movies, so he took action and started training for them. He lives by this mantra: </strong></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><span style="font-size:16px;">If you stay ready, you don&#39;t have to get ready!<br />
	</span></strong></em></p>
<div>The rest is history!</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>Listen to this audio (and perhaps a few other related <a href="http://www.youtube.com">YouTube</a> clips) for some more nuggets. <em><strong>However, unless you are a hip-hop fan, you can stop it roughly after the 3:00 mark&hellip;</strong></em></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<p style="text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/d_VBA9rw9NE" width="425"></iframe></p>

<p><span style="color: rgb(84, 141, 212);">Hey everyone &ndash; as you can see this week I&rsquo;ve been doing some MAJOR spring cleaning on my website. <strong>Do any of you have articles or ideas written down that have been sitting in your draft folder for ages? <p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: 28px;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">Don&#39;t Get Rid Of That Crusty Plant&#8230;Yet!</span></span></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/pink-kalanchoe.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-305" src="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/pink-kalanchoe.jpg" style="width: 246px; height: 295px;" title="pink kalanchoe" /></a></p>
<p>I&#39;m sitting here looking at a plant I thought about throwing away in the winter because the leaves dried up, the stems looked like dried twigs, and the flowers looked like dry ash. NOT a good look for home d&eacute;cor, I know.</p>
<p><em>(Hey &ndash; I forgot to water the little thing. Sue me!)</em></p>
<p>But, since I saw a LITTLE bit of green &ndash; a sign that there was a little LIFE left- I instead decided to chop off all of the dead pieces of the plant, leaving only the root.</p>
<p>Throughout winter and spring, I keep watering it &ndash; little by little. There were times I thought, &ldquo;Girl, why are you wasting your time with this crusty plant. Just throw it away. Your mom can just add it to her compost!&rdquo; But I just couldn&rsquo;t bring it to myself to get rid of the pitiful looking thing. Instead, week after week, I watered away.</p>
<p>One warm day &ndash; I woke up and opened my window blinds. I glanced down at the plant. Guess what? This formerly-crusty-lookin-thang was FULL of life, the leaves were bright green and it was even bearing flowers! It kind of caught me off guard! I mean, I had been watering it and all, but hadn&#39;t really paid attention or noticed its growth throughout the weeks until BAM &#8211; pink flowers were shooting EVERYWHERE.</p>
<p>As I went to do a little more pruning this evening (I forgot to water it this week, so some pieces of crust snuck in, he he) &ndash; a thought came over me: (And yes, I often get inspired by physical occurrences in my everyday life&ndash; strange and all. I&rsquo;m weird like that.)</p>
<blockquote>
<p><em>What would&rsquo;ve happened if I had thrown that plant away because it appeared to be dead, even though there was a sign it had a little bit of life left? What if I had stopped watering it throughout the winter because it was cold, showed little sign of progress, and appeared to be a waste of time (and water!)? I never would&rsquo;ve been able to see the beautiful flowers it was going to produce in the spring!</em></p>
</blockquote>
<p><strong>Then it hit me: this flower &ldquo;incident&rdquo; was symbolic of my own life. Seriously &ndash; it was. <u>How many times have I given up on something too soon because it didn&rsquo;t pan out the way I thought it should&rsquo;ve, or maybe there were aspects of it that were pretty hideous</u>. <br />
	</strong></p>
<p>Of course there are times when I know I have to let something go, but I&rsquo;m talking about those opportunities that have come my way (or are STILL in my hand) that I didn&rsquo;t really give enough effort to succeed.</p>
<p>You see, sometimes we blame circumstances, or people, or things, etc&hellip; for giving up or for causing us to fail. But if we take a moment to be honest, and we &ldquo;keep it real&rdquo; &ndash; we would realize that sometimes the only person to blame for our lack of success is the reflection you see in the mirror each and every day.</p>
<p><em><strong>Sometimes we can see a little green (a little LIFE left) in that opportunity; but rather than watering it (being diligent and giving it our BEST shot), we either get lazy, do nothing with it, or are inconsistent with putting forth the effort it needs to grow, until we finally throw it away.</strong></em></p>
<p><strong>I know I have.</strong></p>
<p><em>And if I&rsquo;m TRULY honest, I at times STILL do.</em></p>
<p><strong>What about YOU? <br />
	</strong></p>
<p><strong>But that can change.</strong> We&rsquo;ve heard over and over that the first step to recovery is to be completely honest and to admit an addiction. So often we attribute that to drugs, alcohol, sex, food, etc&hellip; But what about failure? Laziness? Disobedience? Inconsistency? Fear? Have you ever thought that perhaps these can be addictions too? I don&rsquo;t know &ndash; all I know is some of the <a href="http://www.danijohnson.com/go/7560143p53">first steps to success</a> is an admission of truth, making a decision, and then following it up with an ACTION. Sometimes that action can be simple as breaking a usual cycle that causes you to make the same mistake. For example:</p>
<p><em>&bull; If you know you have a habit of overeating or eating junk late at night, go to bed earlier. Or, if you wake up and HAVE to eat something, only eat fruit.</em></p>
<p><em>&bull; If you have a habit of watching too much TV, then make a decision not to turn it on AT ALL that day.</em></p>
<p><em>&bull; If you drink too much soda, stop buying it. If it&rsquo;s not in the house, you are less likely to overindulge with it.</em></p>
<p><em>&bull;&nbsp; </em><em>If you started a website (or twitter or facebook account), but you aren&#39;t happy with its <a href="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/portfolio">graphics</a> (or lack thereof), <a href="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wordpress-website-management-virtual-assistance-services">get help</a>.<br />
	</em></p>
<p><strong>And the list goes on and on. <br />
	</strong></p>
<p>These may seem like &ldquo;common sense&rdquo; solutions, but really &ndash; how many of us KNOW we should or shouldn&rsquo;t do something, yet we set ourselves up to fail by placing ourselves in the exact scenario each day to guarantee our failure?</p>
<p><em><strong>If you think or sense you SHOULDN&rsquo;T do something, DON&rsquo;T do it. If you think or sense you SHOULD do something, and then DO it.</strong></em></p>
<p><em>I&rsquo;m writing this to you, but I&rsquo;m really writing this to me too</em>. I just thought I&rsquo;d share it with you too. In fact, writing this very &ldquo;blog&rdquo; post is something I often put off doing because I think I&rsquo;ll either &ldquo;do it later&rdquo; while I help someone else, or my ego thinks it is not something someone else may want to read.</p>
<p>But quite frankly, all of these are excuses.</p>
<p>(See, I don&#39;t cut myself any slack either *smile*)</p>
<p><em><strong>In closing remember this:</strong> if you have a dream, a clear goal, a desire, etc&hellip; and opportunities come &ndash; take them. If you are spending money getting training and mentored, follow the stinkin&rsquo; directions and put those teachings into action. If you are nervous and scared &ndash; that&rsquo;s ok. But as it is said, &ldquo;feel the fear and do it anyway.&rdquo;</em></p>
<p><strong>Keep moving forward. Be diligent. Be consistent. Give it your absolute BEST shot. In other words, keep &ldquo;watering the plant.&rdquo; <br />
	</strong></p>
<p>And one day when you least expect, you&rsquo;ll bloom! *wink*</p>

I felt that someone might need to read this, so that&rsquo;s why I&rsquo;m posting it. It has nothing to do with <a href="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wordpress-website-management-virtual-assistance-services">website management services</a>, <a href="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/portfolio">graphics</a>, web sites, social media or anything of the such. It&rsquo;s just something from my heart. If that bothers you, you&rsquo;re free to click the little &ldquo;x&rdquo; in the right corner. *smile* But if you ARE reading it &ndash; then thank you. <p>OK, so we&#39;re on the homestretch: here is part 3 of the <a href="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/why-all-teachers-need-their-own-website">3-part series &quot; Why All Teachers Need Their Own Website&quot;</a>. Who-hooo!!</p>
<p>I stated that this final post might be pretty epic.</p>
<p>To be quite honest, I can&#39;t really say that it is. Just keepin&#39; it real&#8230;</p>
<p><em>(<strong>NOTE TO SELF:</strong> Don&#39;t ever say that again!)<br />
	</em></p>
<p>But I hope you find these final tips useful. If not, perhaps you will like the clip art. If that doesn&#39;t wet your whistle, just click the &quot;like button&quot; any way and help a sister out. Insert a pat on the back if you&#39;d like. You&#39;ll feel good about yourself for doing a good deed. Thanks.</p>
<p>With that being said, <em><strong>here are two more reasons why teachers might want to consider getting their own website.</strong></em></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 16px;"><span style="color: rgb(178, 34, 34);"><strong>6. The Content Remains Your Property&hellip;FOREVER!</strong></span></span></p>
<p style="text-align: center;">&nbsp; <a href="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/Generic-Sold-Sign.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-504" src="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/Generic-Sold-Sign.jpg" style="width: 298px; height: 272px;" title="Generic Sold Sign" /></a></p>
<p>Nothing lasts forever.</p>
<ul>
<li><strong><em>Trends come and go. </em></strong>Do YOU still wear those baggy MC Hammer pants? No? That&rsquo;s what I thought&hellip;</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li><em><strong>Songs top the chart one moment and become nuisances later. </strong></em>Remember how beautiful &ldquo; My Heart Will Go On&rdquo; was when it first came out? 2,345 rotations later, didn&rsquo;t you want to smash your radio when you heard the first note of that flute? Yes? That&rsquo;s what I thought&hellip;<a href="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/80s-fashion-trends.jpg"><img align="right" alt="" class="alignright size-full wp-image-509" height="237" src="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/80s-fashion-trends.jpg" title="80s-fashion-trends" width="192" /></a></li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li><em><strong>Technology changes faster than a speeding bullet.</strong></em> Come on, you KNOW you still have a few pagers lying around your house somewhere. They are probably with your stack of 8-track cassettes, behind your VHS collection. Agree? That&rsquo;s what I thought&hellip;</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>To sum it up, no one knows what the future holds. </strong></p>
<p>	We may have the best intentions of doing something for the rest of our lives, or living in a certain place, but then something called &ldquo;life&rdquo; happens.</p>
<p>	If for some reason, you decide to move to another town, city, state &#8211; heck, another continent &ndash; and you are forced to relocate to another school, what happens to all that content you posted on your schools website? Chances are because it is hosted on your schools server, it remains their property.</p>
<p>	Now, if you have some techno skills, you can back up your files on another private site.</p>
<p>	<em>But who the heck wants to do that?!</em></p>
<p>	Wouldn&rsquo;t it be frustrating to lose all of your files, discussions, exams, notes, etc&hellip; each time you move to another place, or start a new semester, or welcome a new set of students? </p>
<p>	Yes, you can keep copies of all of your files on your computer, but can you imagine having to sort through that mess each year? I hope you&rsquo;re <em><strong><u>really</u></strong></em> organized!</p>
<p>	Wouldn&rsquo;t you rather have one central location to house and track the progress you have made over the year? Won&rsquo;t it be great to be able to see a snapshot of the past successes of your curriculum? </p>
<p>	On the flip side, won&rsquo;t it be easier to critique areas you think need improvement, simply by being able to review your website, student&rsquo;s comments, questions, and more? After all,<strong> your job is to serve your students by preparing them with the tools they need for success</strong>. </p>
<p>	<u><strong>Think about it</strong></u>: what &ldquo;research&rdquo; method can possibly be more effective than being able to review actual students&rsquo; questions, comments, suggestions (and more!) from an entire year? </p>
<p>	There is no study, no paid report, and no analyst projections that can give you a better snapshot of what you need to do the following year than your actual stats and <em><strong>actual </strong></em>results from the students themselves. </p>
<p>	And it will cost you little financially to do so.<br />
	<strong><br />
<em>How much is that worth to you?</em> </strong>Really think about that. </p>
<p>	Do you think the results that you can get, the lives that can potentially be changed, the connections that you can make &#8211; <em>do you think a few hundred (or thousand) dollars is worth it as an investment to you and your students?</em></p>
<p>	I think so. I take that back &ndash; I KNOW so. But again, that&rsquo;s my opinion. *smile*</p>
<p>	And back to the initial &ldquo;points&rdquo; &ndash; if you absolutely have to leave your current school, <em><strong>what happens to all the connections you&rsquo;ve made? </strong></em></p>
<p>	If you&rsquo;ve bonded with several students, how will you be able to stay in touch with them? What will happen to all those students after they graduate from your class? Once they&rsquo;ve graduated, they may lose their school-granted email addresses.</p>
<p>	And how can they stay in touch with you?</p>
<p>	This brings me to the next benefit for having your own WordPress website&hellip;</p>
<p>	<span style="font-size: 16px;"> <span style="color: rgb(178, 34, 34);"><strong>7. Keep In Contact With Your Students, Long AFTER They Graduate</strong></span></span></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/graduation-hats-tossed-in-air.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-505" src="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/graduation-hats-tossed-in-air.jpg" style="width: 276px; height: 208px;" title="graduation hats tossed in air" /></a></p>
<p>If you own your own site, you have a central location that students can refer to in the future in case they decide to follow you throughout the course of their lives.</p>
<p>	<strong>Encourage students to contact you for future recommendations for job interviews.&nbsp;</strong> Ask them to share pictures of their future children, weddings, successes &ndash; anything that they want to keep you in the loop.</p>
<p>	I have a teacher who I keep in contact with &lsquo;til this day, even though I have graduated from college a few years ago. I (along with one of my friends) visit he and his wife for dinner from time to time. He has written me job recommendations, calls me to see how I&rsquo;m doing, and his wife has sent me pictures of their first grandbaby.</p>
<p>	He considers me a part of his extended family. We may not speak often, but I know that if I have an issue or concern, he will be more than glad to help. This is blessing! </p>
<p>	While we were at Villanova, people would randomly show up during our night class 5, 10, 20 years after they graduated to say &ldquo;hi&rdquo; to him. He becomes everyone&rsquo;s grandpop. </p>
<p>	We are making plans so that I can redo his website, so that he can have better communication with his students for that same reason. After all, he is now in his 70&rsquo;s and will need to retire soon. Which reminds me &ndash; I need to call him!!</p>
<p>	<em>But I digressed&#8230;</em></p>
<p><a href="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/Young-Schoolgirl-Giving-Her-Teacher-An-Apple.jpg"><img align="left" alt="" class="alignleft size-full wp-image-516" height="250" src="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/Young-Schoolgirl-Giving-Her-Teacher-An-Apple.jpg" style="width: 198px; height: 250px;" title="dv1940032" width="198" /></a></p>
<p><strong>Have <u><em>you</em></u></strong> <strong>had a teacher in your life, who made such a positive impact on you, you wish you could visit them?</strong> You make plans to do so, but one year goes by&hellip;then another one&hellip;and another one&hellip;and another five&hellip;and before you know it, 10 years have gone by, and NO visits have happened!</p>
<p>	Now you&rsquo;re not even sure if he/she is still there, or if he/she will even remember you when you return. Well, I&rsquo;m sure that most good teachers recall most (if not all) of their students, but there&rsquo;s always that chance they won&rsquo;t.</p>
<p>	On the other hand, there are some teachers whose lessons have impacted you in a way that even if you hadn&rsquo;t developed a personal relationship with them, you wish you could remember the content they taught, or the resources used throughout your course. </p>
<p>	I had great plans of keeping all of the great notes I took throughout high school and college. I even had a folder on my computer where I would store these files. </p>
<p>	Over time, I would save all the projects I was proud of, stored the PDF&rsquo;s that we were given to download &ndash; did everything the &ldquo;right&rdquo; and organized way. I was so proud of myself! &ldquo;I&rsquo;ll be able to hold onto these memories FOREVER! This is awesome.&rdquo; </p>
<p>	Except I kept forgetting to do the obvious SMART thing &ndash; <strong>back up my hard drive! </strong><em>And I bet you know what is coming next&hellip;</em></p>
<p style="text-align: center;">
	&nbsp; <a href="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/man-punching-computer.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-522" src="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/man-punching-computer.jpg" style="width: 288px; height: 193px;" title="Unhappy Customers are not Engaged Visitors" /></a></p>
<p>You guessed it! My computer died and the hard drive couldn&rsquo;t be saved. All that data, gone. All my files &ndash; erased. All those notes &ndash; vanished in an instant!</p>
<p>	<em><strong>(Pardon my language) but that sucked &ndash; big time! </strong></em></p>
<p>	So during the second half of my education, I made sure to save everything on an external hard drive. Kudos to me for being responsible, right?! Go me!</p>
<p>	<em>&hellip;Or so I thought&hellip;</em></p>
<p>	You see my old laptop was running on Windows XP. And our home computer had a virus. So I decided to use my old hard drive to transfer some files to another computer. However, somewhere along the process, my hard drive got reformatted by accident &ndash; and completely deleted!</p>
<p>	<em><strong>Epic failure #2!</strong></em></p>
<p>	So all the memories, all my files were gone in a matter of moments.</p>
<p>	Long story short, outside of using my yearbook &ndash; <em>I lost track of the names of all of my teachers, files and things I treasured most &ndash; <strong>AGAIN</strong>!<br />
	</em><br />
I tried searching on the school directory to see if some of them were there. Unfortunately, many weren&rsquo;t there any longer and relocated to different schools and universities.</p>
<p>	<em> Shucks!</em></p>
<p>	Thanks to the almighty Google, I can find a few of them. But sadly, some of them who haven&rsquo;t yet joined the social network phenomenon &ndash; can&rsquo;t be found.</p>
<p>	<strong>Please &#8211; don&rsquo;t let this happen to YOUR students. </strong></p>
<p>	This can change today! Yes, it may require a little investment on your end, but the amount of time, money and wasted resources it will save you in the long-run will certainly be worth it &ndash; that is IF you REALLY want to make a major difference in your student&rsquo;s life. <strong>But that is totally up to you.</strong></p>
<p>	I hope that you find these tips useful.</p>
<p>	If you or anyone you know is ready to take the next step and get a valuable WordPress website, then send me a note and holler at ya girl! We are ready to serve you.</p>
<p>	<strong>There really is no reason to have any students like myself, who years later regret not being able to find the teachers that have impacted their lives in a big way.</strong></p>
<p>	So in conclusion to this post, I&rsquo;d like to give a &ldquo;special shout&rdquo; (because Black folks like shout outs!) to some of the teachers who have made a great impact on my life. I have had MANY great teachers, but I will spare you the details&hellip;</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">
	&nbsp; <a href="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/gold-shout-out-dude.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-526" src="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/gold-shout-out-dude-1024x1024.jpg" style="width: 258px; height: 258px;" title="gold shout out dude" /></a></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><u><strong>Ms. Gray &ndash; J.R. Masterman Middle School:</strong></u></p>
<p>You instilled in me a love for learning. You made school fun. You were creative. I still remember some of the songs that classmates made up when you gave us the assignment to write a song about the story of Dies Drear. I can credit you as being the person who gave me the opportunity to pen my first song. I love you soooooo much.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><u><strong>Ms. Edenbaum &ndash; <a href="http:// www.centralhigh.net">Central High School</a>:</strong></u></p>
<p>I will never forget the day you pulled me aside after doing an extra credit fictional story about a girl named Aquanetta Boncretia Jones.</p>
<p>	(Yep, I made that name up. And I gave her a gold front tooth too. Long story&hellip;)</p>
<p>	I will never forget how the class cracked up at my story and the feeling I felt after reading it to them. It was one of the first times I felt good after reading publicly. You pulled me aside after class; I was nervous and thought I was in trouble! But you surprised me and told me I had a wonderful &ldquo;dry sense of humor&rdquo;. </p>
<p>	I was semi-insulted, because I thought that was a bad thing. But then you told me it wasn&rsquo;t. You then said that I had a special gift with writing and speaking.</p>
<p>	I thought you were being polite and trying to boost my self-esteem (ha ha!!) but looking back I realize that you planted the seed of confidence in me for writing. I&rsquo;ve ran away from it for quite some time, but it&rsquo;s starting to sprout again. Thank you Mrs. Edenbaum! I hope to reconnect with you soon and show you me new &ldquo;stuff&rdquo;!</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><u><strong>Professor Erny &ndash; a.k.a &ldquo;Max Go Clemson&rdquo; &ndash; <a href="http://www.villanova.edu">Villanova University</a>:</strong></u></p>
<p>Dear Erny, you are one of the weirdest individuals I have ever met in this Universe. And you are fully aware of this. </p>
<p>	<a href="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/finding-nemo-dory.jpg"><img align="left" alt="" class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-534" src="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/finding-nemo-dory-300x225.jpg" style="width: 199px; height: 151px;" title="finding-nemo-dory" /></a>I know you remember that I actually dropped your class after attending it once, because I thought you were too weird for me (ha ha!). But I felt a great &ldquo;force&rdquo; (perhaps God) pushing me to sign back into it. </p>
<p>	And I was surprised to hear you talking about me as I tiptoed back into the classroom that night. You were expressing how bad you felt that I dropped your class (ha ha!) and you were so excited when I walked back in. I thought <em>&ldquo;Dang! Now everyone probably thinks I&rsquo;m weird. Awesome. Not!&rdquo;</em></p>
<p>	At times, I thought that you were a bit off your rocker giving college students homework assignments that required us to write our favorite flavors of ice cream, watch &ldquo;Finding Nemo&quot;, write down the names of our future spouses and children, and all sorts of wacky things. You recommended we read several of Stephen Covey&rsquo;s books and made us repeat several assignments over and over on yellow legal pad paper (the long one, ha ha!). </p>
<p>	But it wasn&rsquo;t until we graduated that I realized why you did what you did. You wanted us to discover things about ourselves, what we liked, disliked, who we wanted to be, where we wanted to be and more &ndash; so that we can get headed in the right path upon graduation. I&rsquo;m still learning about myself each day, but I have to thank you for helping me get to this point. </p>
<p>	I still find you a bit weird sometimes, but you know that. I look forward to visiting you and Marian real soon. Don&rsquo;t worry &ndash; I will bring you warm oatmeal raisin cookies and strawberry ice cream &ndash; your favorites! <img alt=":D" src="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/plugins/fckeditor-for-wordpress-plugin/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/teeth_smile.gif" title=":D" /></p>
<p style="text-align: center;">
<p>	&nbsp; <a href="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/teacher-certificate.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-532" src="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/teacher-certificate.jpg" style="width: 343px; height: 265px;" title="teacher certificate" /></a><br />
	&nbsp;</p>
<p><span style="font-size: 16px;"><span style="color: rgb(178, 34, 34);"><strong>If you have any teachers who you want to shout-out, PLEASE do so and holler on my comment area below. I&rsquo;d love to see their names and know what impact he/she has had on yo</strong></span></span><span style="font-size: 16px;"><span style="color: rgb(178, 34, 34);"><strong>ur life.</strong></span></span></p>
<p>But before you go, you don&#39;t think I&#39;d write about teaching without having a POP QUIZ at the end. I wanna know if you were paying attention.</p>
<p>So here goes: can you name <u><strong>all 7 examples of ways teachers can use their own website?</strong></u> No? Slackers!</p>
<p><em>I kid, I kid&#8230;&nbsp;</em><a href="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/pop-quiz.jpg"><img align="right" alt="" class="alignright size-medium wp-image-561" src="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/pop-quiz-300x199.jpg" style="width: 165px; height: 114px;" title="pop quiz" /></a></p>
<p>Here&#39;s a little recap of the 7 reasons why teachers need a website and examples of how they can use them.&nbsp;</p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14px;"><strong><span style="color: rgb(178, 34, 34);">1. Create An &ldquo;Ask ______ (Insert Your Name)&rdquo; Section On Your Site</span></strong></span><br />
	<span style="font-size: 14px;"><strong><span style="color: rgb(178, 34, 34);"> 2. Post Upcoming Topics For Discussion<br />
	3. Create A Twitter Account For Fun Communication With Students<br />
	4. Keep Parents In The Loop<br />
	5. Birthday Wishes Galore</span></strong></span><br />
	<span style="font-size: 14px;"><strong><span style="color: rgb(178, 34, 34);"> 6. The Content Remains Your Property&#8230;Forever<br />
	7. Keep In Contact With Your Students, Long AFTER They Graduate<br />
	</span></strong></span><br />
I hope you had as much fun reading this as I had writing it.</p>
<p>Now please send me a note or two (or 17 if you&#39;re ambitious) below.</p>
<p>God bless <img alt=":)" src="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/plugins/fckeditor-for-wordpress-plugin/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/regular_smile.gif" title=":)" /></p>

<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><b><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;; color: rgb(192, 0, 0);">4. Keep Parents In The Loop</span></b></div>

<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">For parents with younger children, adolescents or teenagers, this might be a familiar conversation for some of you.</span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><b><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">Parent:</span></b><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;"> Hey sweetie! How&rsquo;s my pumpkin sugar muffin snuggle toes? How was schooly wooly? Give me a kiss! </span></div>

<div><b><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">Parent:</span></b><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;"> What do you mean &ldquo;what homework&rdquo;? Don&rsquo;t you have homework?</span></div>

	*Crickets*</span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">Oh.</span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">Perhaps I exaggerated a smidge&hellip;raised to the 23rd power. </span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">The point I&rsquo;m trying to make (yes, there IS one, I promise&hellip;) is that if all teachers posted homework assignments online, parents would no longer have to question their kids about upcoming assignments, projects, meeting and such.</span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div align="center"><a href="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/shocked-woman-on-computer1.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-424" src="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/shocked-woman-on-computer1.jpg" style="width: 339px; height: 226px;" title="shocked-woman-on-computer" /></a></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">Teachers can send email alerts with upcoming tests, so that they can know to check their children&rsquo;s scores, sign exams, papers, permission slips and more. </span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">This keeps parents abreast of all that&rsquo;s going on, and eliminates all sorts of clever excuses and future fictional accounts about conversations between children and their parents to a minimum. </span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">(Sorry kids. I feel your pain&hellip;)</span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">Thank God my mom didn&rsquo;t know how to check email when I was in school. Actually, she still kinda-sorta doesn&rsquo;t. </span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">But I digressed.</span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><b><i><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">Moving on&hellip;</span></i></b></div>
<div><b>&nbsp;</b></div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">In addition to allowing parents to have access to homework assignments, upcoming exams, projects, meetings, events and more, you can also create a simple way to have correspondence with parents who may want to ask questions or voice concerns. How?</span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">First, create a &quot;Contact&quot; section on your site where you can post a personalized email address for parents to contact you, for example: parents@yourname.com. You can also add a contact form where they can submit questions or comments too. Finally, post your office hours and alert parents on the best ways to reach you when. This benefits the parents who will appreciate being able to know what their children are learning. This might also ease their concerns knowing that they have the option of connecting with you at a time and place that is most convenient for them.<br />
	</span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">Likewise, this allows you to establish boundaries and set the rules of engagement for parents so that you can also have time for a life. <em>I mean, you DO want to have a life outside of school, right?</em><br />
	</span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">And speaking of &ldquo;engagements&rdquo; and celebrations, that reminds me of the next tip&hellip;</span></div>
<div><b>&nbsp;</b></div>
<div><b><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;; color: rgb(192, 0, 0);">5. Birthday Wishes Galore!</span></b></div>
<div><b>&nbsp;</b></div>
<div align="center"><a href="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/happy_birthday_cake.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-421" height="316" src="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/happy_birthday_cake.jpg" title="happy_birthday_cake" width="300" /></a></div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">Thanks to <a href="http://facebook.com">Facebook</a>, it is next to impossible to forget your friends&rsquo; birthdays! For your older students (who DO decide to grant you access to their Facebook page) this is a great way to remember their birthday. </span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">But something tells me that it is highly unlikely that teachers with students in elementary school will be able to use this feature. Just sayin&rsquo;&hellip;</span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">&hellip;Unless your child is featured on &ldquo;Toddlers and Tiara&rsquo;s&hellip;or a celebrity child star from Disney&hellip;Or <a href="http://www.justinbiebermusic.com">Justin Bieber</a>. </span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">What did you say? He&rsquo;s 16? My bad&hellip;</span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><strong><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">I kid, I kid. I&rsquo;m a Belieber!!<br />
	</span></strong></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><i><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">But I digressed&hellip;</span></i></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><b><i><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">The same principle of Facebook&rsquo;s &ldquo;birthday reminder&rdquo; feature can be created in a number of ways for your students: </span></i></b></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">For teachers of younger students, you can ask parents/students to manually fill out a survey of the students&rsquo; birthdays, hobbies, talents, likes, etc. &ndash; all sorts of goodies. Older students can fill this out themselves.</span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">You can then ask someone to volunteer to enter the data into an Excel document (or do it yourself if you&rsquo;re up to the task!) so that you can sort all of the birthdays by month and by day. Then you can manually insert all of the dates into one of the free calendar plugins/widgets on your WordPress website. </span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">You can then pre-schedule a post each month announcing the birthdays for that month. And if you want to take that a step further, feel free to have a mini-birthday celebration on a mutually agreed upon date to honor those who are celebrating their birthday that month. </span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">But let&rsquo;s take that a step further. <span style="color: rgb(178, 34, 34);"><b>Here&rsquo;s another fun (and FREE) idea that is sure to be a hit with your students, but pretty dang inspiring (if I may say so myself&hellip;)</b></span></span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">Have you ever watched &ldquo;Entertainment Tonight&rdquo; in the past, where they featured a fun quiz where you&rsquo;d guess which celebrities were celebrating their birthday that day? And after you answered the question they&rsquo;d list other famous folks who were also blowing out their birthday candles that day too? </span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><strong><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">Well, you can do something similar for your students, but on a much smaller scale: </span></strong></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">Include in this monthly post a list of famous people who are also celebrating their birthdays that month. By knowing that a celebrity, a scientist, an innovator &ndash; <i>anyone</i> who is held with great esteem &ndash; shares a birthday (or birth month!) with them, you have no clue how much this might boost their self-esteem. After all, they are the future and you want them to believe they can do absolutely ANYTHING they set their mind to do. </span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">As weird as this may seem, it is simple things like these that can make a huge impact on someone&rsquo;s life &ndash; even at an early age. You can do a simple google search for this information or start here: <a href="http://www.famousbirthdays.com">http://www.famousbirthdays.com</a><br />
	</span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">Wanna know a few of the awesome women who share a birthday with me? <a href="http://www.aliciakeys.com">Alicia Keys</a> and Etta James! <br />
	</span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">Then at the end of the year (semester) you can have a farewell party for all the summer babies. Talk about a great way to end the year, huh?</span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><b><i><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">Do you like these ideas so far? </span></i></b></div>
<div><b><i>&nbsp;</i></b></div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">I hope you find them useful.</span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><b><span style="font-size: 18pt; font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;; color: rgb(192, 0, 0);">BUT WAIT &ndash; THERE&rsquo;S MORE!!!</span></b></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>

<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="color: rgb(178, 34, 34);"><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">I ended up writing so many tips that I had to extend these tips to one more post, making it a <u><strong>THREE-part series</strong></u>! </span></span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><b><i><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">And I&rsquo;m warning you, the last part is pretty epic.</span></i></b></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">So tune back in a few days to see the rest, because it&rsquo;s pretty much done. </span></div>

<div align="center"><b><i>&nbsp;</i></b></div>
<div><b><i><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">Let&rsquo;s face it &ndash; we&rsquo;re all different</span></i></b><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">: some of us are shy while others are very outgoing. As a teacher, you need to find ways to ensure that each student has an equal opportunity to express themselves in his/her own way.</span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">One thing that bothered me in school was how one-sided and &ldquo;traditional&rdquo; certain teachers were. They had an old-fashioned rule that in order to pass the class you had to write great papers, do well on tests, do great presentations and participate in class. Now, I&rsquo;m not saying that that is a bad thing&hellip;but for students who were shy (or easily embarrassed) their lack of class participation, or lack of being able to effectively give public presentations caused their grades to suffer A LOT!</span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><b><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">I, for one, can sometimes have multiple personalities.</span></b><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;"> Wait, did I just say that out loud? I did, didn&rsquo;t I? <i>Well let me clarify that&hellip;</i></span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">In certain class settings I was comfortable, raising my hand, answering questions, cracking jokes (not in a disruptive way, no worries), having fun, learning &ndash; the whole nine! But if I was in a classroom with a teacher who was a bit more structured and intimidating, sometimes I came across as stand-offish and quiet. &nbsp; So in these classes, teachers would deduct points from my grade due to lack of participation. Which suc&hellip;&hellip; er, um, stank.</span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">Plus, I HATED public speaking and would get so nervous beforehand, I thought I would pass out or throw up in front of the class.</span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><i><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">Luckily, neither of those things happened</span></i><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">. Thank. You. Jesus!</span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><b><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">But I had a professor one year whose approach was a lifesaver and opened my eyes to new methods of learning.</span></b><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;"> Rather than following the standard black-and-white grading system, he made up his own rules. This leveled the playing field and gave ALL students a chance to use their strengths to succeed. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: right;"><a href="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/arnold-kindergarten-cop-movie-clip.jpg"><img align="right" alt="" class="alignright size-full wp-image-341" height="184" src="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/arnold-kindergarten-cop-movie-clip.jpg" style="width: 245px; height: 184px;" title="arnold - kindergarten cop movie clip" width="245" /></a></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">He posted questions online after classes and required that everyone respond online (like a blog). I was amazed to see the awesome writing of students who never participated in class.</span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">In addition, this teacher used his website to post videos, clips, quotes, songs, scenes from movies &ndash; all sorts of things, using methods that appealed to <i>every</i> student&#39;s learning style in a different way. He also allowed us to post questions and have group discussions with other students, for all to see. </span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">At times he would read comments/questions that were posted online and discuss that in class the next day/week, so that those who processed their thoughts verbally could continue the discussion. <i>It was awesome!</i> It was an open-dialogue that made learning fun! <b>Homework was no longer a boring individual task &ndash; it was fun and interactive.</b> And I loved it!</span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">And because of that, I did very well in that class<b>. And so did pretty much everyone else!</b></span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">You knew that he genuinely wanted each student to succeed! He embraced each person&rsquo;s unique personality and gave us all an equal opportunity to express it.</span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">You might be thinking <em>&ldquo;that sounds fine and dandy, but how can I apply that to my current teaching methods, without requiring me to change who I am? After all, half of the year/semester is over.&rdquo;</em></span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;"><strong>I&rsquo;m glad you asked. </strong></span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;"><b><span style="color: rgb(192, 0, 0);">Here&rsquo;s a list of the reasons why all teachers need their own website, and 7 things you can do with your user-friendly, WordPress website:</span></b></span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<p><span style="font-size: 16px;"><b><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;; color: rgb(192, 0, 0);">1. Create An &ldquo;Ask ______ (Insert Your Name)&rdquo; Section On Your Site. </span></b></span></p>
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/question.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-343" src="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/question-300x300.jpg" style="width: 179px; height: 179px;" title="question button" /></a></div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">This allows students to post questions using their names (or anonymously!) about things discussed in class. You&rsquo;d be surprised at how many students might be too shy to ask questions in class, in fear of looking stupid or being judged. However, by giving them an opportunity to do so in a safe environment without fear of ridicule from other students &ndash; the chances of having better results from these students has skyrocketed!</span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">Some students are ashamed to ask questions because they are afraid the teacher will embarrass them because it is something they should already know. As much as people say &ldquo;no question is a stupid question&rdquo; some teachers respond in a way that comes across as condescending or judgmental. No one likes to feel dumb or belittled, but it happens all the time, even from &ldquo;mentors&rdquo; who one might enlist for help. I can attest to that. Although I was shy, I was always the kid that would volunteer myself as the class &ldquo;idiot&rdquo; because I knew someone else was too ashamed to ask. I&rsquo;ve had students come up to me privately at the end and whisper &ldquo;Thea, thanks for asking that! I was scared to ask that out loud because I thought everyone else knew that already and I didn&#39;t want to look stupid. THANK YOU!!&rdquo;</span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">In fact, I had one friend (who shall remain nameless!) who would write questions that she wanted answered on a piece of paper and pass them to me during the class so that I could ask the teacher instead if her! <em>But I didn&rsquo;t mind at all</em>. </span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">Plus, I&rsquo;m naturally inquisitive, my mind races a mile-a-minute and I can forget things quickly if I don&rsquo;t make a conscious effort to stay focused. </span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">Again, <b>by creating multiple channels for students to ask questions, you have a better chance of improving your classroom&#39;s level of success. Plus, it makes for a much better classroom atmosphere!</b></span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<p><span style="font-size: 16px;"><b><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;; color: rgb(192, 0, 0);">2. Post Upcoming Topics For Discussion.</span></b></span></p>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/coming-soon.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-351" src="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/coming-soon-300x281.jpg" style="width: 187px; height: 175px;" title="coming-soon" /></a></div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">This is one KEY feature that will make things so much easier (and less frustrating) as a teacher! Most teachers will provide students with a syllabus or an overview for that course. However, you might decide during the course to spend more or less time than you intended on a certain subject. Sometimes this presents a challenge for students who can&rsquo;t keep track of the changes. As a result, students sometimes forget which assignment is due when, and what they need do before the next class, making it frustrating for both the student and the teacher. </span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">But once in a while, you will get a slacker or two who uses this as an excuse to not complete assignments. Have you ever gotten the excuse<em> &ldquo; You see, what had happened was, I was following the syllabus and didn&#39;t realize I did the wrong assignment until it was too late&quot;? </em><br />
	</span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">Well, with the ability to edit the syllabus online as needed, you will be able to deem all excuses as a thing of the past. (Sorry students&hellip;don&rsquo;t hate me!!)</span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: 14px;"><br />
	</span></div>
<p><span style="font-size: 16px;"><b><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;; color: rgb(192, 0, 0);">3. Create A Twitter Account For Fun Communication With Students.</span></b></span></p>
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/twitter-questions.png"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-353" src="http://thewebsitemanagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/twitter-questions-300x300.png" style="width: 165px; height: 165px;" title="twitter questions" /></a></div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">Encourage students to engage with you on Twitter by creating fun discussions, games, and contests using Twitter hashtags for topics in class. They may need to create a new one solely for class (you might too!). &nbsp;</span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div style="margin-left: 0.25in;"><b><i><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">For example:</span></i></b><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;"> If you are an English teacher discussing poetry, for Valentine&rsquo;s Day you can have a contest where you&rsquo;d select a winner to win a special prize for the best response for <i>&ldquo;Roses are red, violets are blue&hellip;&rdquo;</i></span></div>
<div style="margin-left: 0.25in;">&nbsp;</div>
<div style="margin-left: 0.25in;"><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">So your hashtag could be #rosesRredvioletsRblue. </span></div>
<div style="margin-left: 0.25in;">&nbsp;</div>
<div style="margin-left: 0.25in;"><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">(Yes &ndash; I know that&rsquo;s not grammatically correct&hellip;especially for an English teacher, but Twitter has character limits people!)</span></div>
<div style="margin-left: 0.25in;">&nbsp;</div>
<div style="margin-left: 0.25in;"><i><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">But I digressed&hellip;</span></i></div>
<div style="margin-left: 0.25in;">&nbsp;</div>
<div style="margin-left: 0.25in;"><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">You can set a deadline and require all entries to be submitted by 11:59PM on February 13th. </span></div>
<div style="margin-left: 0.25in;">&nbsp;</div>
<div style="margin-left: 0.25in;"><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">Then you can announce the winner on your website the next day, and later post a &quot;congrats&quot; on Twitter.</span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><b><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">In addition, you can copy/paste all of the entries on your website</span></b><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">. </span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">Not only does this encourage creativity and quick-thinking, but it is pretty darn fun! This shows students you are willing to meet them where they are at by engaging with them on social media. So many professors criticize the social media phenomenon because they don&rsquo;t realize its effectiveness. By embracing social media and the &ldquo;Web 2.0&rdquo; strategies, you demonstrate to students that social media can be used for good and productive reasons. </span></div>
<div><em><br />
	</em></div>
<div><em><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">Plus, being able to tell their friends that their teacher incorporates Twitter into the classroom for fun might make you a hit with the students AND increase your cool points. I&rsquo;m just sayin&rsquo;. </span></em></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">But that&rsquo;s just my opinion&hellip; *wink*</span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><b><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">Oh and if you think THAT is cool, what about this idea: </span></b><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">the week before an exam, you can create another hashtag for students to submit short questions before the exam and set a deadline for all submissions. Then with the use of a cheap flip cam, you can record a video of yourself answering all of the questions. You can then upload that video to your site and post it privately via YouTube (or whatever video program you choose).</span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">This will help the last class before the exam seem less stressful, because most of the questions will have been answered ahead of time. </span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">As an added bonus, you can offer students the opportunity to each submit one last question (via Twitter) before the exam. After the Q&amp;A session, you can post all of your questions and responses on your website.</span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">Not only is this more convenient for the students, <b>this can cut down on the endless hours of one-on-one tutoring and frustration on your end (as well as the students). It allows you to address several questions at one time, and by having it all done via the web and video &ndash; students can replay it over and over.</b></span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">Isn&rsquo;t that awesome?! I think so. But I&rsquo;m a little biased&hellip;</span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><b><i><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">And these are just SOME of the things you can do with your website!</span></i></b></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><b><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;">Note:</span></b><span style="font-family: &quot;Verdana&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;"> I am aware that most of these tips apply to older students, but my following posts will include tips for teachers with younger students, no worries.</span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
